  • Shabbat shalom from the Jewish Wolfpack
    Oct 9, 2015
Jessica DrooksShabbats at NC State are truly an enjoyable experience. With such a small Jewish population on campus, it's very important to me that I maintain my beliefs and stay true to my faith. Participating in Shabbat services twice a month helps me accomplish this. I leave every Shabbat looking forward to seeing everyone at the next one!

  • Gratitude for an unforgettable summer in Israel
    Oct 7, 2015
On June 22, I embarked on my journey to Israel to learn how to advocate for Israel on my campus, East Carolina University. Each day, the experience got better and better. The tools and skills that we learned are designed to promote Israel rather than combat hate with more hate or facts. I learned that the best way to fight injustice and hateful speech is to promote peace.

  • Remembering Ricky Green
    Jun 30, 2015
Ricky GreenIt is with great sadness that we share the loss of a beloved community member and former student president of UNC-Greensboro Hillel. Ricky Green passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. May his memory be a blessing, and may God comfort all of Ricky's loved ones among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

We have collected some comments and memories of Ricky from the NC Hillel community.

  • Global Jewish connections: a Tar Heel's adventures abroad
    Jun 3, 2015
Julie and a friend in ViennaOne of the most unique experiences as a Jewish student studying abroad didn’t take place in Berlin. On the weekend of Passover, I was in Vienna, Austria, and North Carolina Hillel staff connected me with a local family, giving me the opportunity to attend a Passover Seder.

  • Taglit-Birthright Israel | Remembering our past and experiencing the present in Jerusalem
    May 26, 2015
Bus 872 on MasadaWe soon arrived at the Western Wall, one of the highlights of the trip. Many in the group had meaningful spiritual or religious experiences at the Wall, and some chose to leave a written note in the Wall.

  • Taglit-Birthright Israel | Bus 872 heads north, and on to Tel Aviv!
    May 21, 2015
Bus 872 in JerusalemYesterday, we visited Itay's kibbutz, and it was really cool to see where he grew up. A lot of us didn't understand what a kibbutz is until we visited. It was interesting to see that Itay grew up so differently than we did - but we are still very similar. We visited Itay's house and swam and canoed in the Sea of Galilee.

  • Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) at NC State
    May 20, 2015
Miriam RoochvargAs I stepped into the lecture hall fifteen minutes before Morris Glass, a local Holocaust survivor, was scheduled to speak, I was amazed by the packed room that lay in front of me. Over 350 students were present to hear Morris’s story, a disheartening piece of our people’s history that must never be forgotten or repeated.

  • Taglit-Birthright Israel | Bus 872 visits the holy city of Tzfat
    May 19, 2015
Today we learned about mysticism in a state of sleepiness. Tsefat is a picturesque town that emits a sense of history with its cobblestone paths. However, we were surprised about how heavily a part art played in the culture.
