NC Hillel is thrilled to announce that UNC-Chapel Hill Campus Director Michelle Brownstein Horowitz received the prestigious Richard M. Joel Exemplar of Excellence Award at the annual Hillel International Global Assembly on Wednesday, December 11. This is the highest honor that Hillel bestows on its most outstanding, dedicated professionals.
Michelle has served as UNC-Chapel Hillel Campus Director and previously as Associate Director for almost nine years. Ari Gauss, Executive Director of North Carolina Hillel, presented the award, applauding her hard work and dedication to Carolina's students. He described Michelle's many contributions: "Our students describe Michelle as a mentor, best friend, mom and counselor all in one. She has embraced opportunities to share the textual core of our heritage by teaching our 10-week Jewish Learning Fellowship, relishing the chance to steward our students along their Jewish journey. Her commitment to engaging students has led us to double our depth engagement since her arrival."
Michelle was one of just eight Hillel professionals from around the world to receive this award. North Carolina Hillel is deeply grateful for Michelle's commitment to and love for Jewish students at UNC-Chapel Hill.
