Engagement Team does outreach to new and previously uninvolved students at UNC. If you are a new student, you can reach out to Hillel and one of these students leaders can take you out for coffee, tea, or froyo. 

First Year Students of Hillel (FYSH) Chair: Rianna Saslow
Creates programs specifically for first-year students at Carolina to network and bond. Recent programs have included the FYSH Retreat, dinners at local restaurants, movie nights and Shabbat dinner.

Multi-Cultural Chair: Annabelle Friedman
Educates students at Carolina about the Holocaust. Partners with other religious and cultural groups at UNC Chapel Hill to create programs that generate understanding between members of different communities. Notable annual events include Interfaith Shabbat and Interfaith Arts Festival and the annual Reading of the Names program takes place in conjunction with Yom Hashoah. Students, faculty and staff are invited to come together over the course of 24 hours to participate in a continuous reading of names of victims of the Holocaust so that they will never be forgotten.

Israel Chair: Tal Harris
Plans events to teach the community about Israel and creates a space for open discussion of Israeli culturally and politically. Each Spring the Israel Committee plans Israelfest, an opportunity for the entire campus community to learn about and celebrate.

Religious Chair:

Creates meaningful programming around Jewish holidays for students to learn about traditions and experience them for themselves.jnm

Tzedek (Social Justice) Chair: Ben Rappaport
Gives students the opportunity to volunteer at various projects in and around Chapel Hill and participate in a biweekly Tzedek Discussion and Learning Group. Previous projects have included volunteering at UNC Hospital, working with Rebuilding Together, and partnering with local synagogues to work with Sunday School students.

 Challah for Hunger Hillel Rep: Gaby Zuckerman
Bakes and sells challah to raise money and awareness for social justice. At UNC, we donate 100% of our proceeds to our causes. 


Shabbat Intern: Kendra Watkins and Samantha Savage
Builds a lively atmosphere for students to celebrate and enjoy Shabbat together each week. See Shabbat for more information about our programs or to RSVP for weekly Shabbat services and meals.

Graduate Student Intern: Maya Weinberg
Works with staff to plan and implement programming specifically geared toward Jewish graduate students.
